Whew! That’s a lot of words in one title to describe a notebook! Let’s break it down into parts.
Let’s start with the “coloring book” part. Just like the books you were allowed to color in when you were young, these books have illustrations in black and white. Some of these notebooks are meant for adults and some are meant for kids. If you like to color, a coloring book prayer journal is one place where you can get out your markers or your colored pencils or your crayons. And, just in case your markers bleed through, the illustration pages are blank on the back side.
And maybe you’re familiar with using a journal to write down your prayers. You certainly will be able to record your prayers in a coloring book prayer journal. There are even prompts to get you started, so you can branch out a bit from the typical “Please, Lord…” prayers we often tend toward when we don’t think too hard about how varied a prayer can get.
But how do these two concepts fit together? Well, each illustration is designed to help you slow down your prayers. After each illustration page are eight journaling prompts, two on each page, with a dot beside each prompt to designate a color you’re going to use in your illustration. Each prompt helps you focus your prayer on one kind of topic every time you use that color. There is room for you to write down what you pray about that topic, so you can look back at a later date and see what kinds of answers God has given you over time, and how He has shaped your prayers as you’ve grown in your faith.
